SUPPLY LIST:

  • The Harlene Overalls pattern (hips 34 - 57 1/2”) from Merchant & Mills.

    • Please note: This pattern is available in two size ranges. Please double check your body measurement to the M&M size chart. Note this is a UK size chart, not US, so do not make assumptions on what size you will want to make. If you are unsure, contact Christine to help you select a size.

  • 2 - 4 yards of medium weight woven fabric, depending on the width of your fabric, the size you are selecting, & what your machine can handle. Ideal fabrics are cotton canvas, cotton twill, denim, & corduroy. Make sure your machine can handle sewing through multiple layers of your chosen fabric. Note this pattern is for non-stretch fabrics. A lot of denims have stretch, so double check your choice before committing to a fabric.

  • Optional: 3/4 yard of lining fabric. Depending on your outer fabric choice, you might prefer a lighter fabric for the interior waistband, pockets, & fly pieces. This would ideally be from something quilt weight or similar. This will be discussed in the prep class.

  • Thread - that matches your fabric

    • If you plan to do contrasting topstitching: in addition to thread that matches your fabric (for constructing seams), you will also want one spool of topstitching thread (for topstitching), & a spool in the SAME color but of REGULAR weight (for the bobbin).

  • Six 15mm jeans buttons, plus a few extras for practicing

  • Two 40mm dungaree clips

  • Two 40mm adjustable sliders

    • Note: Merchant & Mills sells kits containing the clips, sliders, & jeans buttons here

  • Denim heavyweight needle (and a spare or two in case of breakage & for when it gets dull)

TOOL LIST:

  • Sewing machine with straight stitches & zigzag stitches (or a serger for seam finishing in place of zigzag stitches), & the ability to sew buttonholes

  • Buttonhole foot

  • Hammer & hammering surface (wood, anvil, cast iron pan) for installing jeans buttons

  • Iron & ironing board

  • Sewing needle for your fabric weight & type

  • Full sized scissors & small scissors for trimming (highly recommended)

  • Seam gauge or small ruler

  • Water soluble marking tool

  • Clear ruler, at least 2” x 18” (for putting your pattern pieces on grain during cutting)

  • Flexible tape measure

Please note: tools & supplies are sold separately & are not included in the class f
