WORKSHOP DATE:

  • Sunday, April 26, from 1pm-5pm Eastern / 10am-2pm Pacific

SUPPLY LIST:

  • The Sidney Sweatshirt pattern (bust 30 3/4 - 55”) by Merchant & Mills.

    • Please note: the pattern is available in two size ranges. This sweatshirt is very oversized, so be sure to look at both the body & finished garment numbers before choosing a pattern to buy. Reach out to Christine if you need guidance selecting a size.

  • 2 - 3 yards of medium weight knit fabric. Required yardage depends on the size being sewn & the width of your fabric. Ideal fabrics are French terry, sweatshirt fleece, ponte, interlock knit, double knit, & jersey knit. Avoid fabrics with lots of drape or an open structure like loosely knitted sweater knits. Please confirm the choice with Christine if you are unsure if it will work.

  • 3/4 yards of ribbing for neckline, cuffs, & hem. If choosing to use ribbing strips instead of yardage, you will need enough length to go around your neck, wrists, and hem. There is a yardage chart on the third to last page of the pattern to help you calculate the amount needed by size. The ribbing strips will need to be 2 1/2” wide (or wider) to work for the pattern.

  • Thread

TOOL LIST:

  • Sewing machine with stretch stitch options, or with a zigzag stitch. A serger can also be used for sewing seams.

  • Iron & ironing board

  • Sewing needle for your fabric weight & type

  • Full sized scissors & small scissors for trimming (highly recommended)

  • Seam gauge or small ruler

  • Water soluble marking tool

  • Clear ruler, at least 2” x 18” (for putting your pattern pieces on grain during cutting)

  • Flexible tape measure

Please note: tools & supplies are sold separately & are not included in the class fee

SKILL LEVEL:

  • Advanced beginner: This is a great beginner knit project. If you’ve made a woven project or two in the past & are ready to take on knits, this is perfect! Note: this is not a “learn to sew” workshop.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:

  • Sewing with knits

  • Sewing with ribbing

  • Working with stretch stitches

  • Clipping & grading seams

  • Using a commercial sewing pattern

  • Reading & understanding commercial sewing pattern instructions

  • Printing & assembling a digital sewing pattern

  • Taking your measurements

VIRTUAL WORKSHOP DETAILS:

  • Workshops are taught by me, Christine Haynes, live from my home studio

  • Attendance is limited to ensure personal one-on-one attention

  • Workshops are led virtually through Zoom, a free video conferencing software that can be downloaded here

  • Students will need access to a computer, smart phone, or tablet with internet access to participate in the workshop (note: the bigger your screen, the easier it is to see the action!)

  • I teach using two cameras, so you can always see a close up of each step being taught, as well as have face to face interaction

  • A Zoom link & password will be emailed a day ahead of the first class session to the email address used in checkout, so be sure to type your email correctly upon checkout

  • Workshop sessions will be recorded so students that get behind, or need to miss a session, can rewatch the previous lesson & catch up

  • The focus of my workshops is on construction & technique. Fit is discussed, but due to the nature of Zoom workshops, fitting instruction is limited

Return Policy: Please note that there are no returns or refunds on workshops. The number of students is limited to ensure a good learning experience for each student, so when you reserve your spot, that is held for you, whether you attend or not. If you cannot attend the classes live during their scheduled time, students will still be able to learn by following along with the workshop recordings. Thank you for understanding!
