DVF Wrap Dress Virtual Workshop

DVF Wrap Dress Virtual Workshop

$300.00

The DVF Wrap Dress changed the face of fashion forever when it was launched 50 years ago. The style is so iconic that it’s still being worn today on every type of woman. To celebrate the anniversary, Vogue patterns has reissued the original DVF Wrap Dress sewing pattern! So of course we need to make it! The dress can be made in maxi or just-below-the-knee length, with in-seam pockets, and optional features like a pointed collar & sleeve cuffs. Make it simple for everyday wear, or make it for a fancy occasion. This dress can go anywhere!

  • Inserting side seam pockets

  • Hemming knit fabric

  • Sewing with a twin needle

  • Using a commercial sewing pattern

  • Reading & understanding commercial sewing pattern instructions

  • Printing & assembling a digital sewing pattern

  • Taking your measurements

Skill Level:

  • Advanced Beginner / Intermediate: This workshop is perfect for someone who has sewn a handful of beginner garments & is looking to take on something a little bigger! Please note this is not a “learn to sew” class.

Supply List:

  • The DVF V2000 pattern (bust 29.5” - 48”)

  • 3 1/8 - 7 1/4 yards of fabric, depending on the width of your fabric & the length and size you are selecting.

    • Traditionally, this dress is made from a single knit fabric. However, please note that the pattern indicates that it can be made in either a single knit or a lightweight woven. Here are some thoughts about each:

      • If you want to use a knit, note that some knits are heavy and will grow when worn with a skirt of this size. Do a test to see what multiple yards of your choice does when hung from your waist. If you feel it growing, it might not be the best choice. Silk jersey, merino wool jersey, and medium stretch blends are the best options.

      • If you want to use a woven, double check the finished measurements to ensure you’re buying the pattern in a size large enough to allow for some positive ease on your dress.

  • 2 - 3 yards of lightweight fusible interfacing (woven or tricot)

    • We will be interfacing slightly different than the pattern calls for, so please have extra on hand to adjust as necessary.

  • Thread

  • Four 1/2” buttons (for optional sleeve cuffs)

Tool List:

  • Sewing machine with straight stitches & zigzag stitches (or a serger for seam finishing in place of zigzag stitches)

  • Iron & ironing board (pressing ham recommended)

  • Sewing needle for your fabric weight & type

  • Twin needle (optional)

  • Full sized scissors & small scissors for trimming (highly recommended)

  • Seam gauge or small ruler

  • Water soluble marking tool

  • Clear ruler, at least 2” x 18” (for putting your pattern pieces on grain during cutting)

  • Flexible tape measure

Please note: tools & supplies are sold separately & are not included in the class fee

  • Students will need access to a computer, smart phone, or tablet with internet access to participate in the workshop (note: the bigger your screen, the easier it is to see the action!)

  • I teach using two cameras, so you can always see a close up of each step being taught, as well as have face to face interaction

  • A Zoom link & password will be emailed a day ahead of the first class session to the email address used in checkout, so be sure to type your email correctly upon checkout

  • Workshop sessions will be recorded so students that get behind, or need to miss a session, can rewatch the previous lesson & catch up

  • The focus of my workshops are on construction & technique. Fit is discussed, but due to the nature of Zoom workshops, fitting instruction is limited

Return Policy:

Please note that there are no returns or refunds on workshops. The number of students is limited to ensure a good learning experience for each student, so when you reserve your spot, that is held for you, whether you attend or not.
