The Piper Top Re-launch!
The next pattern re-launch from our back catalog is the Piper Top! The Piper Top is a modern funnel neck knit top, inspired by tops of the 1960’s. As easy to sew and wear as a t-shirt, but slightly elevated in style, the Piper Top has a funnel neck that you can choose to wear folded or raised as a high turtleneck, set-in sleeves, and an hourglass shape meant to follow but not cling to the curves of the body. There are two sleeve lengths: a short sleeve that hits halfway between the shoulder & elbow, and a 3/4-length sleeve that lands above the wrist.
Just like the Varda Dress & Top recent re-launch, this pattern has NOT been revised with expanded sizing. The Piper Top pattern is the same from the original release from 2017, but with updated pattern lines, logos, fonts, and notches, etc. The Piper Top pattern originally had photo step-by-step instructions, and this re-launched version has brand new clear illustrated instructions, along with an updated booklet layout, digital pattern instructions on how to use the various files, and lots of tips on how to work with knits, including illustrated stitch suggestions, depending on the machines you have on hand.
The Piper Top is designed for medium weight knits with at least 2% stretch content, like ponte or cotton and spandex blends. If you plan to wear the funnel neck unfolded, thicker knits like French terry can also be used. Slinky knits like rayon blends are less ideal, as the top won’t keep its shape, and the funnel neck will sink due to the drape, so a knit with some structure to it is a better choice.
Like all of the other back catalog patterns re-launching, the Piper Top will only be available in digital format, and it will retain the original 0-18 sizing. The only remaining old pattern to receive expanded sizing will be the Ellsworth Coat, and of course all new patterns will have expanded sizing. The Piper Top is designed to fit with a small amount of positive ease through the upper body & bust, and slightly more ease as the hourglass shape goes down the body. If you would prefer a tighter fit in the waist and hip, or a looser fit in the neck and arms, a custom fit can easily be achieved by blending between sizes for more or less ease through the body.
